Ilene Harns Berndt, 84, of Parsons, Kansas, departed this life on Tuesday evening, July 8, 2014, in the comfort of her daughter's home, after a recent battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ilene entered this life on August 12, 1929, in Neosho, Missouri, one of twelve children born to the union of the late Charles Ensly and Lillie Mae (Combs) Harns.

Her formative years were spent in Neosho and Carterville, Missouri. She resided several years in Reedsburg, Wisconsin, before moving to Joplin, Missouri in 1965 and later to Parsons, Kansas in 1968. She was employed by Fred Ronalds in Parsons as a sewing machine operator from 1969 until 1985. She later provided home healthcare until eventually retiring.

Ilene enjoyed playing Bingo, gardening, caring for her yard and flowerbeds and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Parsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sister, Charlene Harns; and five brothers, Sherman, Charles, Raymond, Gerald and Bob Harns.

Ilene is survived by three daughters, Sheree Helene Rosenberg and husband, Fred, Debra Louise Huggins and husband, Gordon and Teresa Ilene Wallis and husband, Michael, all of Parsons, Kansas; a son, Gene Berndt and wife, Cindy, also of Parsons; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Hazelbaker of Joplin and Helen Bromley of North Glenn, Colorado; two brothers, Jack Harns of Joplin and Ronnie Harns of the state of Florida; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Ms. Berndt are 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014, in the Chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri with Chaplain Wayne Mason officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery in Joplin.

Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Wes Wallis, Benjamin Huggins, Mason Vance, Gene Berndt, Brett Perez and Shawn Page.
