Susan Hilda Sewell [known as Hilda] was born in 1895 in Waterloo, IN, the only child of William Sherman Sewell by his second wife, Ada Mae Williamson. After receiving her education to be a teacher, she went west to Montgomery Co., IA to teach school. There she met and married Swedish immigrant, Paul Sandholm. They farmed near Coburg in Montgomery County, and moved to Red Oak in their retirement. They had three sons: Franklyn, Keith, and William.
