Married Ruth Ann Carroll on 4 August 1917 in Colfax, Washington; they were the parents of Bernice Hattie (Aeschliman), Paul Leonard, Carroll Holton, Glen Harold, Ruth Ann (Freeman, Greene, Allenbach) and Sarah Jane Nilsen, Gonzalez). They divorced.

In 1942, Carl was residing in Sitka, Alaska and working for the Seims-Drake Construction Co. in support of the military after the attack on Alaska.

Second married Myrtle B. Brown bef 1945.

Carl was the gr-grandson of Dr. James & America (Holton) Ford of Wabash, Indiana.
