George passed away unexpectedly in his home.
He was the son of Frank Sr. and Nicolina Camilli Panei.
George retired from the Butler Street Department, working with his brother Frank, after 20 years. He formerly worked at the Franklin Glass Co. and the Pennsylvania Railroad.
He was a World War II Army veteran.
George was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and the Sons of Italy.
I believe he was named George for George Washington, as they share the same birthday.
George was a kind and generous man, who was seen walking along the streets of South Side on a regular basis. Sometimes I think I still see him.
He was a dedicated lottery player and had quite a bit of luck doing so!
Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Bessie Panei and Lois Panei, and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters, and an infant sibling. George was the last surviving member of his family.
Visitation will be at at the MARTIN FUNERAL HOME, 429 Center Ave.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church, Center Avenue, with the Rev. James Dolan officiating.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
