WOONSOCKET- Funeral services for Mrs. Edna Young, 89 a pioneer of Sanborn County, were held in the First Methodist Church, Aug. 22 with the Rev. Stuart A. Parvin officiating.
Burial was in Eventide Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Swanson, Adolph Trudeau, John Brown, Lewis Baruth, George Powell and Lloyd Edwards.
Edna Mae Wright was born in 1869, In DeKalb, Ill. the daughter of Charles and Diantha Wright. In October of 1882 the Wright family moved to Dakota Territory where they settled on a claim in Miner County. She was a member of the third graduating class at Mitchell High School. In 1889 she began teaching in rural schools where she taught both in Sanborn and Jerauld Counties. In the spring of 1897 she was married to Seward Payne. To this union five children wer born. He died in 1916. Two Years later she married Richard young. They moved to Woonsocket in 1948. He died in 1951.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Diantha Ccsio, Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Charles Payne, Maitalnd, Fla. Alger Payne, Woonsocket, eight grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
