Beck was the maiden name of Michael Whitener's first wife. Her given name is unknown. Philip Beck is the father of the Beck family in North Carolina, but we don't know if they were related. Miss Beck married Michael Whitener about 1748 in Pennsylvania. Her oldest son, Philip Whitener, was born in 1750, with Blandena, Benjamin, and Daniel after that. Some researchers believe there was another child, George Adam. If there was, he was not mentioned in his father's will. The name George Adam Weidner is in a German Bible that gives the death date of Michael Whitener, but there are no dates and nothing to identify him. Michael and his family came to North Carolina before 1761. The birth and death dates of Michael's wife are unknown. In 1774 Michael had a girl, Mary Turner, bound out to him to help with the housework. This could suggest the illness or death of his wife. She died before May 1787 because Michael remarried May 22, 1787 to Maria Elizabeth Papst (Pope) Fry, the widow of Nicholas Fry. They were married in Lincoln Co., NC.
