Kenneth King Services Held

Memorial services were held Saturday, May 22 at 10:30 a.m. for Kenneth King, 37, of Sutherland. Services were held at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Marcus, Rev. Robert Mueller officiating.

Soloist Rick Hurd sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages." He was accompanied by Mrs. Richard Miller at the organ.

Casket bearers were Dave Gravenish, Marvin Guthridge, Grant Lange,Jeff Ames, Virgil Powell and Vernon Austin. Honorary casket attendants were Mike Smallman and Dick Sangwin. Mrs. Marvin Guthridge was in charge of flowers. The committal service was held at Waterman Cemetery, Sutherland.

Kenneth Keith King, the son of James and Evelyn Hintz Austin, was born Aug. 12, 1944 at Sioux Rapids, la.

He graduated from Sutherland High School in 1962 and served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He attended Sioux Empire College at Hawarden and worked as a mechanic and salvage dealer, living around Sutherland and Cleghorn all his life.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Marcus, the C. Adrian Olson Post No. 486 of the American Legion at Cleghorn, and the Cleghorn Fire Department.

He was active in car racing for many years at the Beuna Vista County Raceway at Alta, Webster City and Sioux City.

His death was the result of a car accident near Sioux Rapids, la. on May 20, 1982 at the age of 37.

Preceding him in death were an infant sister, Patricia A. Austin and an infant nephew, Fredrick S. [sic Robert Fredrick] Preusser.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents of Sutherland; four sisters, Karen King Vernon of Sutherland, Mrs. Peter (Jane) Degman of Chicago, Mrs. Bill (Jenny) Lyster of Albert City, and Sarah Austin of Alton, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Military Service Record: He entered service Sept. 30, 1963 at Des Moines, Ia. and served as SP5 in the United States Army. He received training at Fort Leonard Wood and Fort Benjamin Harrison. He received his Honorable Discharge on Sept. 29, 1966 at Fort Eustin, Va. Military Services Conducted at the graveside by the American Legion Post No. 152, Sutherland.
