Alice Niemcziek, age 71, died at Auburn Regional Medical Center on Thursday, August 5, 2010, following a sudden decline in health which was the result of progressive Alzheimer's disease.
She was born May 17, 1939, in Mandan, ND to Roy and Irene Bonagofski. In 1948 her family moved to Centralia, where she attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Centralia High School. On November 10, 1956, she married Gerald Niemcziek. Together they went on to raise five children in Centralia.
Alice spent nearly the first twenty years of married life as a homemaker, and in 1975 she began a twenty year career working as a drugstore cashier (Giant-T, Thrifty, Payless). Upon retiring from her retail employment she spent a few years using up her never-ending energy as a house cleaner for several residents of the community.
Alice was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church for over five decades, as well as long standing member of the Centralia Eagles. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, shopping and watching movies. However, what she loved most was spending time with her large family.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents. Her husband Gerald (Oct. 1999), her daughter Kim Reichert (July 1987), her sister Marian Simpokes (March 2008) and her granddaughter Darcie Davis (June 2008).
She is survived by three daughters, Kelley (Barry) Hughes of Centralia, Kristi (Jeff) Davis of Randle and Keri (Andy) Mullan of Kent; and by her son Kevin Niemcziek of Centralia. Additionally, she is survived by nine grandchildren: Kyle Reichert, Krystal Mishler, Julie Prieber, Jamie Hughes, Dillan Davis, Drew Mullan, Spencer Mullan, Jacob Niemcziek and Lexi Niemcziek, as well as seven great-grandchildren.
Also sharing in Alice's loss are five sisters Amelia Rodriguez of Olympia, Rose Kitchel, Eve Hensley, Lavonne Riggins all of Centralia, Veronica Parker of Vancouver, WA and Monica Villines of Seattle; six brothers, Joe of Portland, OR, Jack, Vick, Al, all of Centralia, Jerry of Kent and Jim of Medford, OR. She also has numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral mass will be held for Alice on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Centralia. Following the burial service a luncheon reception will be held at St. Mary's Parish Hall.
