John Pickett "Pete" Ray, 41, of Fairdale, drowned Monday in Panama City, Fla. He was a heavy-equipment operator and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers 181, Truman Democratic Club and Fairdale Athletic Alumni Association. Survivors: his wife, the former Linda Morris; a son, Jason Ray; his mother, Iona E. Ray; three brothers, Garnie Ray of Brandenburg, Jim Ray of Orlando, Fla., and Phillip Ray of Irvine, Calif.; and two sisters, Marietta Montgomery and Ruth Bachmann. Funeral: 12:30 p.m. Friday, Arch L. Heady Okolona Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Highway, with burial in Risinger Cemetery in Fairdale. Visitation from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday.
