Daughter of Cyrus Culver Canfield and Clarissa Lora Jones

Married Rawsel Bradford, 17 Jul 1869, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah

Married John A. Borlase, 1877, Ogden, Weber, Utah

During 1886-1897, Lorenzo Snow was being held at the Utah Penitentiary. During his time there, he kept a record book that chronicled his experiences, thoughts, and concerns about those he knew. On 1 September 1886, Lorenzo wrote a poem about Melissa Canfield and included it in his Record Book. How Lorenzo Snow knew Melissa Canfield Borlase is currently unknown.

Mrs Melissa Borlase:
With faith in God in patience wait;
Thy troubles soon will all be oer
And thou wilt reign in Queenly state
In realms above through countless years:-
In youthful beauty constant grow;
Then pain, nor death, nor flowing tears
No longer shalt thou ever know;
But countless years will mark thy fame
And mighty growth of thy domain.

The writings in Lorenzo's record book have been transcribed and included in a book published in 2010, "Within These Prison Walls - Lorenzo Snow's Record Book 1886-1897", edited by Richard Neitzel Holzapfel and Andrew H. Hedges. See the BYU Religious Studies Center for more information about this book.
