Mrs Sanford was a native of Halifax County, Virginia, daughter of the late Caleb Chappel and Annie Hudson Whitt and wife of 62 years to the late Charles Edison Sanford Sr.
She was a homemaker and a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons Edison Sanford and wife, Mollie, and Harold Sanford and wife, Gail, all of Roxboro, and Randall Sanford and wife, Carla of South Boston, Va.; six grandchildren, Alicia Bazemore and husband, Baze, Jarrett Sanford and wife Heather, Terry Sanford and wife, Chasity, Melissa Clayton and husband, Trent, Jacob Sanford and Caleb Sanford; and six great-grandchildren, Tinley Clayton, Keegan Sanford, Colby, Addison and Emerson Bazemore and Peyton Sanford.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Sanford is preceded in death by two sisters, Bye Cole and Nell Melton and two brothers, C.J. Whitt and Buster Whitt.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at Olive Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. Victor Blackwell. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Olive Branch Baptist Church and other times at the home of Edison and Mollie Sanford, 10280 Virgilina Road.
Pallbearers will be Bill Cole, Wayne Collie, Kevin Puryear, Bobby Sanford, Lenny Sanford, Mark Sanford, William "Bubba" Sanford and Larry Wilkerson.
Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to the Olive Branch Baptist Church WMU, 7588 Dirgie Mine Road, Roxboro, NC, 27574.
