Funeral services for Clara Coffin Blanchard of Dayton will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dayton. Bishop G.M. Fergus will officiate.

Viewing was scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Feb. 7, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, in the chapel of Dallas Mortuary in Dallas. Interment will take place in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Dayton.

Mrs. Blanchard died at her daughter's home in Dallas on Friday, Feb. 3, 2006. She was 83.

Born in Downey, Idaho, on Oct. 20, 1922, she was the daughter of William Barney and Anna Mabel (Johnson) Coffin. She was raised on a farm near Cambridge, Idaho, and graduated from Downey High School.

She married William Keith Cottam on Oct. 24, 1939, in Preston, Idaho. They lived in Malad City, Idaho, until moving to McMinnville in 1954. They moved to a farm near Lafayette in 1958. She worked for Swift & Company in McMinnville and Pilgrim Turkey Packers in Salem.

After they eventually divorced, she married Leon W. Blanchard on April 9, 1970, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They made their home in Lafayette and Dayton.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and her husband served as missionaries in Harrisburg, Pa. from 1979 to 1981. She also served the church in many ward and stake callings, including roles as homemaking counselor and president of the Ward Relief Society. She worked in the Portland and Seattle temples for more than 10 years.

Mrs. Blanchard enjoyed cooking, reading, fishing, camping and gathering with family for reunions. She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by four sons, Rick Cottam and Jerril Blanchard of Carlton and Leon and Fairen Blanchard of Newberg; eight daughters, Myrna Pendergraft and Teena Fergus of Dayton, Janet Loerts of Dallas, Danice Blanchard of Carlton, Tamara Thomas of Salem, Janice Kelley and Beth Marriott of Portland, and Edith Takacs of Tuscon, Ariz.; 37 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Verlin Cottam; two brothers, Leland and LaVell Coffin; three sisters, Myrtle Jensen, Effie Ware Anderson and Hilda Petty; a grandson, Everett Thomas; and a great-granddaughter, Sadie Hoilien. Contributions may be made to the church's Dayton Ward Missionary Fund.
