Benjamin Cook, Pvt in 2nd Virginia Artillery Rgt, captured by the British in March 1781 at Yorktown, he was exchanged and paroled in July and was a member of the Continental Line at Cornwallis' Surrender in October.

After the war he settled in New Brunswick NJ. marrying Ann Talmedge in 1785. Ann died in 1798. Benjamin then married widow Jemima McCoy Cross in 1799.

The family were members of the New Brunswick First Presbyterian Church and were buried in its cemetery. In 1920 the graves were moved to Van Liew Cemetery with no markers.
