Exuberance and cheerfulness describe Alice’s love of life. Her enthusiasm inspired family, friends and associates. She graduated in 1935 from Brigham Young University in Drama and Dance and continued her love of drama through community theater and the UCSD Institute of Continued Learning where she also served as President. She and Harold loved to travel and in 1957, took their family to Denmark for a one-year sabbatical at the University of Copenhagen. They enjoyed a trip around the world in 1964, as well as many trips to other countries.
During Alice’s college days she was President of Associated Women Students, and throughout her life she continued to provide skilled leadership, as she chaired numerous organizations. Alice’s hobbies included gardening, knitting, bridge and crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader and enjoyed living adjacent to the La Jolla Library. Her grandchildren remember her luscious meals, lively card games, and adventurous walks on the La Jolla shores. Alice’s family was foremost in her life and they will lovingly remember her zest, positive outlook, devotion, generosity and love.
Alice is survived by five children and their spouses: Carl (Irene) Christensen of La Canada, CA; Boyd (Betty) Christensen of San Diego, CA; Janice (Francis) Hedquist of St George, UT; Larry (Penny) Christensen of Littleton, CO; Gayle (John) Broberg of Salt Lake City, UT; 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to share in an informal memorial celebration of Alice’s life, at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 19, in the Community Room of the La Jolla/Riford Branch Library, 7555 Draper St, La Jolla.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests sending donations to Hospice By the Sea, 312 S. Cedros Ave, Solano Beach, CA 92075.
