Mr. James Pellew. 84, died at his residence, Osmond Terrace, Norwood, yesterday. He was the father of Dr. L. J. Pellew, of Adelaide, and grand father of Dr. H. E. Pellew. Dr. Marion Hamp, Melbourne, and Dr. E. J. Hamp, Norwood, and Messrs. L. J. and R. A. Pellew, the cricketers. Mr. Pellew was born in the village of Trincraig, Cornwall, and worked in a mine when he was ten. His father came to Australia in the Ramilles and brought his family with him in 1860. In 1881 the son bought a property at Third Creek, near Norton's Summit, and he came a successful horticulturist. He retired about ten years ago and lived at Osmond-terrace. He devoted himself to literature and became possessed of a remarkable knowledge of Shakespeare. He became ill about three months ago. His other children are Mr. A. H. Pellew (Norton's Summit). Mrs. Thomas Playford, and Mrs. H. Slade (Norton's Summit). A daughter, Mrs. W. E. Hamp, died before him. There are eight great-grandchildren.
