ALEXANDER HAMILTON MASON, son of Dr. and Mrs. A.S. Mason, W. Washington St., died Friday evening about 8 o'clock of an acute attack of heart failure. The news of the sad event quickly spread throughout the city among his many friends, and was heard with expressions of he most sincere regret. Mr. Mason was son of the best liked men in Hagerstown, and stood second to none in the esteem and regard of his friends.

He was a good son, the say and reliance of his father and mother. He was attentive to his church duties, and was industrious and hardworking. Mr. Mason was studious and spent much of his spare time in research and study, with the view of cultivating himself and broadening his store of information.

The deceased was a true and stanch friend, a man of honor and of high regard for his word and ancestral responsibilities and privileges. He was fair and straightforward, of reliable and steadfast courage. No compromiser but a man of decided view and active expression. That his death fell with a shock on a vast number of people here may be accepted with more than the ordinary effect.

Of late he had not been looking well and had talked of retiring from his present employment to get one where he could enjoy outdoor exercise. Friday evening he complained of a headache and went up on Prospect St. to pay a social call. He hardly got inside the door before he felt ill, answered an inquiry as to his health quietly and leaned against the wall. He then fell forward and died. When his father got there there was no sign of life.

Mr. Mason was 48 years old and spent most of his life in Hagerstown. He was in the West for several years. Lately he has been employed in the offices of the Pope Automobile Works, this city. He was engaged in the fire insurance business for some time and for a number of years was corresponding secretary of the Hagerstown Fair.

Mr. Mason was born at Falmouth, Va., but had been living in Hagerstown since boyhood, coming here when his parents removed to this city from Virginia in 1867.

He was a member of St.John's Protestant Episcopal church.

His parents and the following brothers and sisters survive: Mrs. Mary Landon Alexander, wife of Gen. E.P. Alexander, SC; J. Augustine Mason, Hagerstown; Beauford A. Mason, engaged in newspaper work in Pittsburg; Mrs. Frances A. Wrenshall, wife of John R.C. Wrenshall, a civil engineer connected with the Philadelphia and Reading railroad, with offices at Harrisburg; Thos. M. Mason and Miss Jane A. Mason, at home. He was the brother of the late Dr. Edward G. Mason, a successful young physician, residing in New Yorkj, who died here in 1904.

Funeral Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock; services at St. John's church; interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Messrs John H. Kausler, Frederick Fechtig, Vernon N. Simmons, Charles C. Clapp, Harry E. Wise and R.J. Hamilton.
