Chris was a son of the late William B. Andrus and Frieda Imhof. He was a Vietnam veteran, having served with the US Army. He was a talented musician and naturalist who had found his way to the western NC mountains and settled in Brasstown, where he quickly became a favorite at the John C. Campbell Folk School with his musical talents and warm personality. Chris never married and returned to his hometown of Townshend, Vermont when his health began to fail. He passed away in the Grace Cottage Hospital just before his 58th birthday.

One brother, Peter Andrus, of Vermont, and Chris's many friends are left to mourn his passing.

An informal memorial gathering to celebrate the life of Christopher Andrus was held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2003 in the community room of the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown. All those who loved Chris and considered themselves his friends were invited to share memories, sing songs, and play music in his honor.
