Son of Matias Vazquez (1849-1900) and Efigenia Lopez (1853-?) of Spain. He emigrated from Spain to the United States in 1914 via Cuba.

During World War I, Leopoldo not only served as a Private in Company I, Casual Company, Casual Detachment, but also served in the Army as a Private in Company A, 345th Infantry, 87th Division, a unit that was demobilized at Camp Upton, N.Y. in 1919.

The name of Leopoldo's first wife is unknown. His second wife was Iva Louise Stevens, daughter of Wilbert Stevens and his first wife Agnes "Aggie" Robbins. They married in Detroit, Michigan, at the U.S. Evangelical Lutheran Church on February 5, 1919, at the same time and place that Iva's twin sister Irene married Victor Menendez. According to their marriage records, the twins were 16 at the time of their marriages.

Leopoldo often went by the name "Leo." He and Iva had ten known children between the years 1919 and 1938, but divorced in Wayne County, Michigan on March 2, 1943. Their known children were:

1) Evelyn Sophia (1919-1999), who married Jack Rice;
2) Leopold Norman, known as "Norman" (1921-2008);
3) Matthias Wilbert (1924-1977);
4) Agnes Evangeline (1925-2019); who married 1) Norman Chester Anderson; 2) Frank Angelo De Palma, Sr., who was the widower of her sister Dolores;
5) Juanita (1926-2021), who married Paul W. Diefenbach;
6) Dolores Beverly (1929-1974), who married Frank Angelo De Palma, Sr.;
7) Irene Emma (1934-2001), who married 1) Peter Kosis; 2) Raymond "Ray" De Palma;
8) Janice Lorraine, twin (1938-1938);
9) Jane Louise, twin (1938-1999), who married James Joseph Coyer.
10) Themas [Thomas] Vazquez, about whom information is yet to be located. In all likelihood he died in infancy.

On August 14, 1956 Leo remarried to Elizabeth (Carroll) Arnold in Steuben County, Indiana, who had been married twice previously. They lived in Detroit.

Leo passed away in Detroit on February 21, 1959. Both Leopoldo and his third wife Elizabeth are buried in Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit.

After her divorce from Leo, Iva remarried to Edward Joseph Nally (1898-1971), son of Patrick and Margaret Nally, in Detroit on June 7, 1947. Edward was 49 and Iva was 44 at the time of their marriage. Edward was born in Massachusetts and had previously been married to Cecilia M. Beatty, by whom he had four known children.

Edward Nally died in July 1971, and Iva passed away in Boulder County, Colorado in January 1981.
