Last Rites Held for Popejoy Woman

Mrs. E.E. Akers Died Very Suddenly Saturday

Popejoy, Iowa , July 22 - Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Popejoy Methodist Church with Rev. W.H. Parsons, of Garrison, a former pastor, officiating for Mrs. E.E. Akers. Burial was in the Oakhill Cemetery near Popejoy.

Clara Emma Ahrens was born on October 17, 1879 near Radcliffe, Iowa in Hardin County, Iowa, the oldest daughter of John C. And Anna R. Ahrens. She passed away at noon on Saturday , July 18, 1953 at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, where she had been a patient for two days. Death was caused by heart trouble and complications.

Mrs. Akers was a graduate of Radcliffe High School class of _____ and taught school for several years in Iowa and Minnesota.

On December 15, 1903, she was married to Ed E. Akers. To this union were born seven children, four sons and three daughters, two sons, Melvin Akers and Garth Akers preceded her in death.

After marriage for 9 years, Mr. and Mrs. Akers lived near Buckeye, Iowa and in 1913 , they moved to Franklin County, residing on a farm north of Popejoy until the year 1941 when they moved to Popejoy.

In early life, Mrs. Akers became a member and a regular faithful member of the Ladies Aid Society and the Women’s Society of Christian Service.
She was also a member of the Friendly Club and the Oakhill Cemetery Society.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband and five children, Dale E. Akers of Wausau, Wisconsin, Vera Iverson of Ellsworth, Iowa, Neva Hall of Albion, Iowa, Alice Ellingson of Popejoy and Maurice Akers of Dows, fourteen grandchildren, one sister, Lenora Ahrens of Popejoy, one uncle, George Steinmeix of Riceville, Iowa as well as many other relatives and friends survive.

Her sister, Lenora Ahrens is buried next to Clara and her husband, Ed. While living in Popejoy, their back yards met in the alley with both having beautiful flowers.
