She was called Lenora as she shared her first name Anna with her mother.
While living in Popejoy, her backyard met her sister’s, Clara, backyard in the alley. Both raised beautiful flowers.

Miss Lenora Ahrens Died After A Short Illness

Popejoy, Iowa Jan. 4, 1956 - Funeral Services were held on Monday afternoon, Jan. 2nd, at the Popejoy Methodist Church, with Rev. R.E. Hodgkin officiating, for Miss Lenora Ahrens with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Anna Lenora Ahrens was born July 27, 1884 near Radcliffe, the daughter of John C and Anna R. Ahrens, where she grew to young womanhood, and was graduated from the Radcliffe High School. She taught school for a short time and in 1900 she entered Ellsworth College at Iowa Falls from where she graduated.

Miss Ahrens then went to work at a real estate office in Radcliffe, later going with the firm to Highmore, South Dakota and later to Minneapolis, Minnesota. In July 1918, Miss Ahrens went into government service and worked in Washington D.C. until August 1919. On her return into the middle west, she again went to Minneapolis to work for Thacker Bond and Mortgage and continued with that company until 1949 when she left Minneapolis and came to Popejoy where she had since made her home.

Among her special interests were dramatics and music, having graduated from the Quincy College of Music and Art and the Minneapolis School of Music.

She passed away at 8:00 o’clock Saturday morning, December 31st, at the Lutheran Hospital, after an illness of two weeks.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her brother-in-law, E.E. Akers of Popejoy, seven nieces and nephews, an uncle, George Steinmetz, of Riceville, cousin and a host of friends.

Her parents, three sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
