Mrs. Elizabeth Brokaw, wife of Isaac Brokaw, passed into that peace which passeth all understanding on Saturday evening at the family home, after an illness of some weeks. Mrs. Brokaw was aged 77 years and 19 days, and leaves to mourn her loss; her husband and four sons, Chas. E. of Albia, Wm. H. of Manderson, Wyo., Cyrenus E. and Edward F. of Centerville. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 from the Methodist church and interment was made at Oakland cemetery. Rev. J. A. Glendenning had charge of the services.
The deceased was born Elizabeth Hughes in Ireland on February 24, 1836 the deceased was born Elizabeth Hughes, in Ireland on February 24, 1836. Her parents were Wm. and Elizabeth Hughes, who were natives of the north of Ireland. When Mrs. Brokaw was two years of age her parents came to America and settled on a farm near Anderson, Indiana, where she grew to young womanhood and became the wife of Isaac Brokaw in 1855. Mr. and Mrs. Brokaw continued to Indiana until 1882 when they removed to a farm in Bellair township. They moved to Centerville in 1891.
