Francis F. Tirrell, former member of the city council and veteran shoe worker, died at his home, 510 Clark avenue at 10:15 this morning after a long illness of complications. He was 83 years old.

Mr. Tirrell was born in Weymouth, Mass., June 7, 1854 and grew to young manhood there. He learned the shoemaker's trade when a boy of 14. He was proficient at the art and won rapid advancement. April 23, 1876 he married Miss Laura Wilson. They came to Jefferson City to make their home in 1885 when he secured a position with the Parker Boot and Shoe Company, with which he was affiliated 19 years ago when he retired. His wife died May 19, 1918.

Mr. Tirrell took an active interest in politics and was elected a member of the city council where he served with distinction. He was a member of the Baptist Church for 45 years.

Four children, Mrs. G.U. Hall of Winnemucta, Nev., Mrs. Joe H. Livingston, Fred Tirrell and Mrs. O.A. Wiggs of Jefferson City along with five grandchildren survive him.
