John White was one of the first settlers in Giles County TN, arriving by 1809, as noted in "A Brief Sketch of the Settlements and Early History Of Giles County, Tennessee", by James McCallum, originally published in 1876, and republished by the "Pulaski Citizen", Pulaski TN, in 1928, (pp. 25 & 34).

His wife was Elizabeth, whose maiden name may have been Harris. Both John and Elizabeth were originally from North Carolina. They settled near Buford Station, and built a mill on Robert's Fork, just above the station.
