Illness Is Fatal
Mrs. Eva Lee Bruce Godfrey, 85, of Pisgah United Methodist Church community, route 2, Hiddenite, died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday in Iredell Memorial Hospital. She had been in declining health for several months and critically ill for the past four days.
Born August 7, 1893, at her home place, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Mary Elizabeth Lowrance Bruce. She was a former school teacher. She was a lifelong member of Pisgah United Methodist Church and life member of the United Methodist of the church.
Her husband, Allie Byrd died Sept. 22, 1971.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Mary Brady of Roanoke, Va., Mrs. Maxine Pharr of Augustus, Ga., Mrs. Ruth Alexander of Charlotte, Mrs. Wilma Hill of route 11 Statesville, Mrs. Dorothy G. Herb of the home; three sons, Allie Bruce Godfrey and D. Wilson Godfrey, both of route 2, Hiddenite, and John P. Godfrey of Lake Norman, one sister, Mrs. Abner B. Guy, route 2, Stony Point, 23 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. at Pisgah United Methodist church by Rev. Ted B. Craddock. burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. the body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour.
The family will receive friends at Nicholson Funeral Home today from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer society or to the Permanent cemetery Fund of the Pisgah United Methodist Church, care of Mrs. Cora Martin, route 2, Statesville.
