Beloved Wife, Mother, Sister, and Aunt

Dorothy Jones Gayhart is daughter of Henry Wesley Jones (1894-1961) and Grace Orie Odom (1902-1993). She married George V. Gayhart and together they have one daughter.

We knew her as our beloved "Aunt Dot". One of the sweetest, kindest women that we've ever known.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Dorothy J. Gayhart, age 79, of Birmingham, died Saturday, April 30, 2005 after a long illness. Mrs. Gayhart was born October 12, 1925 in Greenville. She was a graduate of St. Vincent's Nursing School in Birmingham. She and her family moved to Aiken in 1951. They made their home here for 45 years, and she had many friends and neighbors in the Aiken area whom she loved dearly. Mrs. Gayhart was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was employed by the Aiken hospital system as a registered nurse for many years. She was a recipient of the Dr. Thomas Frist Award in 1976. She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, George V. Gayhart; their daughter, Deborah van Zalingen of Birmingham; grandchildren, Andrea Noonan of Montrose, and Adam Nabors of Birmingham; sister, Orie Mae Faulk and Shirley McAllister; brothers, Kendrick W. Jones and Ray C. Jones; sisters-in-law, Joyce Jones and Opal Jones; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services for Mrs. Gayhart were held Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Mr. Gayhart at 1424 Montclair Road, Birmingham, AL 35210. Memorials may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, 12 Kent Way, Suite 101, Byfield, MA 01922.
