Florence was born near Little Rock AR and was the daughter of Silas & Laura Jane Ballard Littlejohn. She married Solomon Rutz on 5 Dec 1889 in Union Township, Pulaski County, Arkansas. They had six daughters. After the death of Solomon Rutz before 1900 she married John Bearden Sr. on 5 April 1901 in Miller County AR. They had one son born in TX.
Florence moved to Celeste, Hunt, TX to be near her sister, Mary Alice Littlejohn Parmer Rawls. Florence washed and ironed clothing for the public. She washed the clothing in an iron pot in her back yard. She had a wood stove and kept one iron on the stove while she ironed with the other. Florence did not cut her hair and wore it in a plait on the back of her head. She loved flowers and always kept canaries. In the winter she sent her birds to the local dry cleaners to spend the very cold months. Florence was a quilter. She collected and dyed tobacco sacks and made a quilt with them. She was survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Rutz Easley of Celeste Texas and Eva Rutz Andrews of Greenville, Texas, one son John Bearden of Celeste, one sister Mary Alice Littlejohn Rawls of Celeste. Preceding her in death were four daughters, Dora and Bessie Rutz (infants) of Little Rock AR, Laura Rutz Robertson of Bayou Meta AR, and Mollie Rutz Easley of Oklahoma.
