Betty Geraldine “Jerry” (Purcell) Holdaway, 94, of Amarillo died August 25, 2014 and is now with our Creator and His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Schooler Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 at Sumner Memorial Gardens in Wellington, KS. Local arrangements are with Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia, Amarillo.

Jerry was born July 20, 1920, in Wellington, KS to Gary and Fern (Richmond) Purcell. At fourteen months, Jerry’s father passed away as the result of a railroad injury. Jerry’s mother then married the man she knew as her father, Joe Hulse.

She attended Wellington, KS High School. Jerry married Delbert Henry Holdaway on July 30, 1939, in Wellington. As a dispatcher with the Santa Fe, Delbert brought Jerry and the two youngest boys of three to Amarillo in 1961 after a job transfer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother for over 75 years.

Jerry was preceded in death by her father, her mother, her step-father and her husband.

She is survived by three sons, Richard of Olathe, KS, Curtis of Amarillo, and Brad of Hutchinson, KS; six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

The loved ones of Jerry would like to thank the Baptist-St. Anthony’s Critical Care Unit and the Hospice of the Southwest at Childers Place for their loving care. To family members and all that knew her, Jerry was a special gift and blessing from our Creator and His Son. Thank you Father, and your Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for that blessing.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity.
