Mrs. Mary Ellen (Nelson) Cowan died Monday afternoon, Feb. 26, 1934 in the home of a son. Charles Cowan, at Chesanning, Mi., at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 5 days. She had gone to Chesanning just four weeks ago. She had been in poor health the past three years.

Mary Ellen Nelson was born Oct. 21 1856 at Cleveland, O. she came to sanilac county at the age of three months, She was married to Edward Cowan on Oct. 21, 1873 and at that date Mr. & Mrs. Cowan took up home-making on a homestead located in Bridgehampton twp. She lived on the old home place all her life.

Thirteen children were born to them, eleven of whom survive, as follows: Mrs. Rose Cole, Deckerville; Edward J. Cowan, Toronto; A. William Cowan, Ann Arbor; Arthur Cowan, Owosso; Thomas, Frank, George, Robert and Alvin Cowan, Deckerville, Charles Cowan Chesanning and Roy Cowan Port Huron, Mr. Cowan died in 1920. Two brothers, John and Dr James A Nelson of Detroit, also survive.

Funeral services were held at the Deckerville Presbyterian Church Wednesday, afternoon. Rev, C.J. Fisher officiating. Burial was made in the Forester Cemetery. Michigan Death Record 005240330_03022
