DEATH OF L.P. POND
It becomes our painful duty this week to chronicle the death of another old soldier - L.P. Pond, who died at his home in Parrish Sunday, March 5, of paralysis.

L.P. Pond was born at Hector, Tompkins county, New York, Dec. 16, 1842, so at the time of his death he was fifty years old. Mr. Pond was a man of athletic build and was apparently in robust health, until the past few months, when he began to fail rapidly. He was during the war a gallant soldier, serving four years in the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry, Company D. He endured all the hardships of active military life, and no doubt but that the long military service shortened his days. He had been a resident of this county for several years, on a farm near Parrish and leaves besides his wife three sons, W.E., C.J. and P.A., and one daughter, Mrs. Nellie McDonald, all grown up and residents of this county. He also leaves four brothers, James, of New York, O.W., of Appleton, Homer and George, of Fort Scott, Kansas, and two sisters, Mrs. A. Carroll, of Fond du Lac and Mrs. Minnie Chancelor, residing in Missouri.

Mr. Pond comes of an illustrious family and was himself one of the best posted men in the county. He was an honest and upright man and leaves a large circle of friends to mourn with his family his early death. The funeral will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) at three o'clock. Members of the G.A.R. Post, of which deceased was a member, will meet the remains at Dudley and escort them to the city where they will be joined by the remainder of the post.

(Lincoln County Advocate - March 7, 1893)
