LEWALLEN RITES SET FOR FRIDAY

Flitus [Filetus] Lewallen, 79, of Keith, died Wednesday in Harlan Hospital after an illness of two days.

Mr. Lewallen came to Harlan County eight years ago from his native home in Elk Valley, Tenn. He was a member of Baptist Church at Four Mile and a retired miner.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. in the Four Mile Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Elk Valley, Tenn. The Rev. Roscoe Douglas will officiate.

Survivors include three children, Mrs. Ada Brown, Keith, Ky., Mr. Lewis Lewallen, Madison, W. Va., and Mrs. Ruby Harris, Barrett, W. Va.

NOTE: Filetus Lewallen and Rebecca "Becky" Perkins obtained a marriage license in Campbell Co, TN on 19 Apr 1898. Then they obtained another one on 14 May 1898. So, for whatever reason, there was a delay after the first license, and perhaps the eligibility period expired. (??) It's unclear whether they ever actually married or not, or if they just got as far as obtaining the license(s). He ended up marrying Malinda Jane "Jane"/"Lindy Jane" Blankenship just three years later on 03 Mar 1901.
