Obituary

The Hooper Sentinel
August 3, 1916

The angel of death has taken the lives of two of the old residents
of the Swaburg neighborhood Mrs. Matts Mattson, Sr. and R. Lars
Olson. Mrs. Matts Mattson, whose death occurred on Friday, July 28,
1916, was born in Dalarne, Sweden, Dec. 13, 1826, thereby being 89
years, 7 months and 15 days of age at the time of her death. The
cause of her demise was chronic Brights disease. As Miss Kerstin
Olson she was married to Mr. Mattson in Sweden. Upon coming to
America in 1865, they settled first at Omaha, moving after a few
years to a farm in the Swaburg neighborhood, which had been the
home since that time. To Mr. and Mrs. Mattson were born five
children, three daughters and two sons, the daughters having passed
away before their mother, while the two boys Matts, Jr. and John,
remain to mourn her loss. Both reside in the Swaburg vicinity.
Mr. Mattson Sr., died about two years ago. She also leaves thirteen
grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were
held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the late home, and
interment was made in the Baptist cemetery near there. Rev. K. de
Freese of the Grace Lutheran church of Hooper, having charge of the
ceremonies.
