Suggested edit: The son of Adam & Margaret Elizabeth (Myers) Tawney, in 1860 he was a mason living with his family in Hamiltonban Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He never married.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of twenty-one in Harrisburg April 20, 1861, mustered into federal service that day as a private with Co. E, 2nd Pennsylvania Infantry, but died from typhoid fever in camp at Chambersburg.
