Cathedral City, Calif. – Gertrude Albert, 90, formerly of Red Lodge and Laurel, died Monday, Sept. 1.

Born to Cornelius and Eli on March 25, 1924, in Bowler, Mont., Gertrude attended primary school near Sage Creek and later the Weast School on Red Lodge Creek. She graduated from Red Lodge High School in 1942. Later that year she married Donald “Jiggs” Albert and together they had a son Thomas J. Albert. Jiggs and Gertrude made their lives in Laurel for many years. Gertrude moved to Red Lodge in 1984, where she was close to her siblings and their family ranches.

In 2007, Gertrude relocated to Cathedral City, to be near her son and his family. Gertrude worked as a secretary at the Yellowstone Boys Ranch in Billings, and as a receptionist at the Chamber of Commerce and Super 8 Motel in Red Lodge. Her love for children and the Red Lodge area made her a perfect fit for the positions.

Survivors include her son, Thomas J. Albert and his wife Patricia; two grandchildren Lori Albert (Gerard) Gonzales and Kyle (Jessica) Albert; four great grandchildren Chance and Michael Gonzales and Hannah and Travis Albert, all of the greater Palm Springs, CA area. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband Jiggs; brothers Elling, Einar, Taylor and John Indreland and sisters, Sigrid Kapor, “Little” Gertrude and Eileen Indreland.

Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Wiefel & Sons Funeral Home in Palm Springs, CA: 690 South Vella Rd, Palm Springs, CA 92264.

Burial is planned at the Laurel, cemetery in July 2015. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly asks donations be made to the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Red Lodge, MT: c/o Terry Indreland, 2811 Gregory South, Billings, MT 59102.
