Philip Faherty, son of Patrick Faherty, married Anne Walsh, daughter of Peter Walsh, about 1855 in County Galway, Ireland. At the time of the 1901 and 1911 census enumerations, the couple resided in Lettershanbally, Leenane, County Galway with their family. They had nine children, seven of whom had left for the United States before 1901. An eighth, Martin, their youngest child, immigrated to America in 1912. Only their oldest child, Thomas, remained in Ireland, where he raised his family in the household which included his parents. Please see the ruins of their residence in Lettershanbally (pictured). Philip was widowed in 1915. My great-great-grandfather died at Lettershanbally on 31 Jul 1919. His son Thomas Faherty of Lettershanbally was present at his death, which was registered on 5 Aug 1919.
