Luther R. Holmes Retired Oilman
Barneveld – Luther Robinson Holmes, 72, died unexpectedly in his home March 13, 1955.
He was born July 22, 1882 in Shinglehouse, Pa., son of Elba and Catherine Dode Holmes. He attended Olean School. IN May 1903 he married to Nellie V. Pierce of Olean.
He was employed by the Texas Oil Company from 1903 until his retirement in 1941. During this time he held positions in Texas, New York State and California. At his retirement he was serving as vice president of the Texas Company of Los Angles.
He made his home in New Hartford from 1941 until 1951 when he came to live on the Hinman Rd. Holland Patent.
He was a member of Fortitude Lodge 200 F&AM, of Ramsey< N.J. and held a dual membership in Remsen Lodge 677 of Barneveld. He also was a member of Arabia Temple of the Shrine, Houston, Tex., and a member of Trenton Methodist Church of Barneveld.
He leaves a son, Lieut-Col Luther A. Holmes, Fort Dix, N. J., two brothers, Mark M. Olean and Earl D. Eureka, Calif., a grandson, James L. Holland Patent, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 Thursday in Trenton Methodist Church, the Rev. Floyd B. Clark officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Remsen Lodge 677 will conduct ritualistic services in Pritchard Funeral Home, Holland Patent at 7:30 Wednesday.
