Wanda Marie Kuck was the youngest of thirteen children born to Henry Luther Kuck. Her mother was his second wife Caroline (Geist) Kuck. Wanda, parents and siblings came out west from Redwood Falls, Minnesota in about 1906 and the family settled on a 40 acre farm on the East side of Reardan, Wa. She married Edward Johnston of Odessa on 4 June 1917 in Davenport, Lincoln County, Washington in the presence of her sister Maude aka Mrs. William R. Maillie and Edward's
sister Stella Johnston. He was the son of James Robert Johnston and Elizabeth Sarah Puderbaugh who at that time were Odessa, Washington residents. Wanda and Edward married in the Methodist Church. As newlyweds, they lived in Odessa for a time before moving on to Portland, Oregon where Edward was a mechanic and later a Packard Salesman. Wanda's mother Caroline spent time living with them after the 1912 death of her husband Henry. Before her death, Wanda and Edward had lived at 6917 N. Fiske in Portland. Wanda was already a widow when cancer metastasized to her brain, the death cert states she died at the Mendelson Nursing Home after a four day stay. Her sister Maude (Mrs. W.R. Maillie) was the informant on the record. According to her death cert it would appear her services were held at "The Little Chapel of the Chimes" in Portland, with burial in the Rose City Cemetery, next to her husband. Wanda's sister and brother-in-law Maude & William Maillie are buried in this cemetery as well.
