On September 12, 2014, John Robert “J. R. or Bob” Bouldin, Sr. answered his last call as His Savior called him home. He dedicated his life to the Lord’s service as he served as a pastor, as an interim pastor and as well as an Army National Guard Chaplain. He was visionary, faithful servant, compassionate pastor, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Robert was born March 6, 1930, in Chatham County to the late James Frank and Betty Creed Bouldin. He graduated from Pittsboro High School going on to graduate from Wake Forest College, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and Command and General Staff College of the United States of America. He married Ann Tripp, August 24,1952.He worked diligently for the lord with his beloved wife, who preceded him in death, December 1, 2011. The Preacher and Miss Ann had made their home across the state as he served full-time at nine churches and then ten interims upon his retirement. LTC Bouldin served thirty years as a Chaplain with the US Army Reserves. He served in units that covered the entire state of NC. He received The Meritorious Service Medal.

One of Preacher Bouldin’s strong beliefs was in community involvement. He was a member of various civic and community groups such as Lions Clubs, Fire Departments, Veteran Groups, Baptist Association Ministerial Councils as well as the Board of Ministers of Campbell University. He was awarded numerous awards and recognitions over the years.

The Preacher’s belief in education as well as stewardship led him and Miss Ann to set up a scholarship at Campbell University for under graduate program as well as one for the Campbell Divinity School. These scholarships were designed to financially assist struggling students who wanted to further their education.

The Preacher leaves a legacy as he is survived by daughters, Beverly B. Butler and husband, Wesley of Oak City; Teresa B. Lindley and husband, Jerry of Bear Creek; son, John R. Bouldin, Jr. and wife, Tonya of Rocky Mount; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is brother, Arthur Bouldin of Pittsboro and sister-in-law Lillie Bouldin of Pittsboro.

The family will receive friends at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Ave. Siler City, Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 6 until 8 PM.
