The son of the late Emory Cox, Sr. and Lois Glover Cox, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Jody Cox and son, Chris Cox.
Sonny was of the Baptist faith. He was the longtime owner of S&G Lawn Service. Sonny was best known for portraying Santa for over 35 years at malls, schools, daycares, churches, and private parties in several southern states which included Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
Survivors include his son, Mark (Brenda) Cox, Richland, GA; daughter, Vickie Collins; daughter-in-law, Rosie Cox, both of Columbus, Ga.; stepson, D. J. Mothena, stepdaughter, Dina Twigg; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and dear friends, Mike and Debbie Bennett and Garrett and Missy Robinette.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Adam Clagg officiating. Interment will be at Waverly Hall Cemetery in Waverly Hall, Ga., on Monday, Sept. 15, at 1 p.m.
