Albert Mahaffy, B.A., Dies After 28 Years Residence
Resident of Calgary for the past 28 years, during which time he served as a minister at St. Andrew's and North Hill Presbyterian churches, and also a barrister of this city, Albert Mahaffy, B.C., 67 years of age, died Sunday morning at the family residence, 1140 Seven-A street northwest.
Born in Port Albert, Ont., the late Mr. Mahaffy graduated in arts from McGill University in 1896. For many years he was a minister at the Presbyterian churches at Milton and Port Elgin, Ontario. Coming to Calgary in 1907 he took an active part in church building activities. He was minister of the North Hill church in 1913 and also aided in building the North Hill United.
Mr. Mahaffy started in law with the firm of Short, Ross and Shelwood in 1916, being admitted to the bar in 1919. After practising law under his own name for many years, he was forced to retire in 1933 due to ill health. He also served as an alderman in 1917-18.
Surviving are his widow, Jean; two daughters, Mrs. L.E. Turner of Alhambra, California, and Mrs. J. Johnson, of Calgary; one son, James C., of the legal firm of Helman and Mahaffy; two sisters, Mrs. H. Neilly, Newton, Mass., and Mrs. A. Doherty, in Manitoba; two brothers, Rev. F.W. Mahaffy, of Guelph, Ont.; Norman, in Port Elgin, and one grand-daughter in Alhambra, California.
