As a young woman, she moved with her family to Germantown, Pennsylvania. In 1888, Anna graduated from Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts; earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. She established a scholarship at that school which contributed to the education of young women. In 1910, after the death of her mother, Anna moved to Roxbury, New York where she lived with her cousin, Helen Gould Shepard. Anna was a member of the Roxbury School Board and served as president of the Roxbury Library Association. She was a member of the Ladies' Social Society of the Gould Memorial Dutch Reformed Church and was treasurer of the John More Association from 1925 to 1940. She was remembered for her happy, cheerful nature.
