Born in Forbes Point, Nova Scotia, son of the late Robert J. and Ida Jane (Adams) Abbott, he has been a resident of Marblehead since 1937.
Capt Abbott was a master mariner. He served in the Canadian and the U.S. Navy in World War I with the rank of lieutenant.
He was a member of the Yacht Masters Association.
He is survived by one son, William H. Abbott of Exter, N.H.; two daughters, Mrs. Mayre Moran of Salem, and Mrs. Dorothy Marble of Conway, N.H.; two brothers, Capt. Ira E. Abbott of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Harold D. Abbott of Beverly; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Evans of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held in the Eustis & Cornell Funeral Home on Saturday at 10 a.m.
