He was married to Eugenia Ophpelia Tyree (1874-1930), the daughter of AME Bishop and minister Evans Tyree (1853-1920) and Ellen Lucretia (Tompkins) Tyree (1854-1931).
A resident of 2120 15th Avenue North, Nashville, he was about 60 years old and a widower when he died at home on August 9, 1932. Burial was three days later in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashville.
