Gary Douglas Snekvik, 78, passed away at his home in Klickitat, Washington on September 9, 2014. He was born in Longview, Washington to Oma Jean (Ammons) and John Snekvik on July 7, 1936.
Gary married Karen Schram in Vancouver, Washington in 1976.
He worked as a commercial pipefitter for Northwest Plumbing & Pipefitting Industry.
Mr. Snekvik was a member of the Klickitat Valley Baptist Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a veteran of the United States Army.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and most of all, being with his family. Gary and Karen spent their retired years wintering in "Sunny Mesa, Arizona" and summers at their property on the Klickitat River, Klickitat, Washington where he resided as "Unofficial Mayor" of Turkey Lane. He was loved by all who knew him.
Mr. Snekvik will be missed by his wife, Karen, of Klickitat; children and their spouses, Lee Snekvik Martin (Craig) of San Tan Valley, Arizona, John Jay Snekvik (CeCe) of Bend, Oregon, Robert J. Steel (Cindy) of Hockinson, Washington, James L. Steel (Dawn) of Ridgefield, Washington, Tamie Cody (Jim) of LaCenter, Washington, Teri Steel (Brad) of Vancouver, Washington, Deborah Winkelman (Ken) of LaCenter and Robin Trenda (Paul) of Battle Ground, Washington; brother, Bill Snekvik (Helen) of Sherman, Texas; sisters-in-law, Lennette M. Watson (Norm Wiener) of Portland, Oregon and Vicki Burkholder (Bud) of Vancouver, B.C.; sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Eileen Snekvik Gourley and Dave Gourley.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Sept. 27 at Klickitat Valley Baptist Church in Klickitat.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gary's name may be given to Heart of Hospice, 2621 Wasco St., Hood River, OR 97031 or Klickitat Valley Baptist Church, PO Box 192, Klickitat, WA 98628.
Gardner Funeral Home handled cremation arrangements.
