Funeral services were held Monday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at Frederick's Funeral Home in Opelika with Dr. Tim Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Garden Hills Cemetery.
Mrs. Leonard is survived by three daughters, Mary Frances (Ronnie) Cousins of Opelika, Jeanette L. (Larry) Broome of Beulah and Shirley Rambo of Kellyton, Ala.; two sons, Doug H. (Virginia) Leonard of Montgomery and James C. (Inga) Leonard Jr. of Weaver; her brother-in-law, Tom L. Leonard of Opelika; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild; and two very dear friends, Mrs. V.J. Jinwright and Nelda Kite.
Born March 10, 1911 in Lanett, Mrs. Leonard grew up and attended school there. After marrying her late husband of 63 years, James C. Leonard Sr., they moved to the Opelika area where she worked in the Diana Shop and Kenwin Shop. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Opelika. She was preceded in death by her brother, Barney L. Smith, and two sisters, Mary B. Smith Leonard and Lizzie T. Smith Scott. She was the daughter of the late the Rev. Barney N. and Emma Kate Scott Smith.
