Chistopher Comstock son of (William) was born about 1635; died Norwalk, Connecticut December 28, 1702; married October 6, 1663 to Hannah Platt who was born in Milford, Connecticut October 1, 1643; baptized there on October 6, 1643; and died in Milford, Connecticut, after 1713. She was the daughter of Richard and Mary Platt of Milford. Christopher came from England and settled in Fairfield, Connecticut, in 1654. (Hinman, Early Puritan Settlers). He later lived in Norwalk. His will, dated Norwalk, December 22, 1701, proved January 4, 1702-3, gives portions of his estate to wife Hannah; to son Moses when 21; to son Samuel; to daughter Hannah Comstock; to daughter Mercy Comstock; to grandson Daniel; his wife and son Samuel were named executors. Two of his daughters, Mary & Elizabeth married St John brothers.
On May 29, 1654, Christopher Comstock made affidavit about visiting good wife Knapp who was charged with witchcraft. She was executed. His wife Knapp was hung in 1653 when Christopher was about 18. (He was not involved in her conviction or execution.)
On January 27, 1661, Christopher, then of Fairfield, bought land of Thomas Betts.
Christopher Comstock of Norwalk was nominated for freedman October 10, 1667. On October 14, 1686, Christopher was a deputy to the General Court. September 19, 1692, he was a member of a grand jury for witches. (See History of Stratford, page 152.) On January 16, 1694, he was one of a committee “to look out for and obtain a faithful minister” for Norwalk.
Family History:
Hannah Comstock Fenn, daughter of Christopher, bought a bible in 1732 dated 1727 for 2 pounds, 15 shillings, which she say she “yearned in her youth.” In 1740, who gave it to her brother Moses, who gave it to his daughter Hannah, who married Phineas Hanford. She gave it to her granddaughter Hanna Hanford who married William Richards. The book then passed into the hands of William Richards, Jr., and now (1907) belongs to his daughter, Mrs. Charles Saylor.

ELIZABETH, born October 7, 1674; married Ebenezer St. John, born about 1660; died 1723-4; son of Matthias St. John.(This is My Line- Gene)

MERCY, born November 12, 1676; married about 1706 Nathan Olmstead. She was his 2nd wife.

SAMUEL, born February 6, 1679-80; died Norwalk, Connecticut, October 26, 1752; married December 27, 1705 Sarah Hanford.

MOSES, born May 4, 1685; died Norwalk, Connecticut, January 18, 1766; married February 23, 1709-10 Abigail Brinsmade.

The second part of the biography of Christopher is from page 683 of the Catalogue of the Names of the First Puritan Settlers of the Colony of Connecticut – 1852. by Royal Ralph Hinman. Hinman says Christopher brought with him from England a silver tankard with his coat of arms upon it. His great-grandson, Major Samuel Comstock, gave it to the church at Wilton, Connecticut, and it was melted up. Christopher as a sergeant in the Colonial Militia.

COMSTOCK, CHRISTOPHER, of Fairfield and Norwalk, his descendants say, came from England about 1652, and settled at Fairfield about 1654, where he remained until 1661 or 1662. January 27, 1661, he was of Fairfield when he purchased the house and home-lot of Thomas Betts, of Norwalk, which had previously been owned by Nathaniel Eli. He probably moved on to his new purchase property soon after, at Norwalk, where he was reputable man and useful settler. No evidence is found which shows that he was a relative either of John, of Lyme (Connecticut), William of New London (Connecticut), or Samuel, of Rhode Island. He married Hannah, daughter of Richard Platt, of Milford, October 6, 1663. After he located at Norwalk, about 1671, he was appointed at Norwalk to keep and ordinary, (hotel) to entertain strangers. On January 16, 1694, he was one of a committee of ten of the inhabitants of Norwalk, and commissioned for the town “to look out for and obtain a faithful minister for the town,” etc. In 1687, his estate of commonage in Norwalk, accepted by the town, was £201, 10s. He is sometimes called Sergeant Comstock.
