Coach Eugene Butler Jr., a native of New Orleans and a resident of Bogalusa for 61 years, passed away peacefully at AMG Specialty Hospital in Bogalusa on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014. Eugene was the husband of the late Barbara Conrad Butler.

He was the oldest son of the late Eugene and Francis Butler. He was affectionately known as “Coach” to the students and community of Bogalusa and Bogalusa High School. He taught and coached with passion for 40-plus years.

Coach Butler attended Gaudet High School in New Orleans and was a graduate of Grambling State University and an Army veteran.

His memories will be cherished by his sister, Josephine B. Davis; brothers, Herman Butler and Johnny Butler (Cora Butler); a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by a memorial service at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Christopher Matthews officiating. A Christian Mass will be held at Blessed Trinity in New Orleans at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, officiated by Father Dennis Hayes III. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Interment will be in Providence Memorial Cemetery in Metairie.
