Robert "Bob" W. Wilson Sr., 85, of Enfield, joined his sons Eric and Joel and his grandson Todd, Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014.

Robert was born on 31 Oct 1928 to the late Bertha and Ernest Radcliffe.

On Nov. 4, 1928, he was adopted by Winifred and William Wilson of Fall River, Massachusetts. At age 17 Bob joined the U.S. Navy and upon discharge in 1949 returned to B.M.C. Durfee High School. After graduating in 1952, he married Barbara (Gernt) Wilson and they relocated to Connecticut where he worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Bob purchased a farm in Washington, Maine, where he lived for a short time before returning to Connecticut and has resided in Enfield for 55 years. Bob retired from Travelers Insurance Co. He was a firm believer in education and began his studies at Hillyer College and graduated from University of Massachusetts with two bachelor's degrees. Bob was a substitute teacher for many years, most notably at Manchester High School and was active in Boy Scouts with Troop 801 and served as scoutmaster. Bob also enjoyed playing in a men's ice hockey league.

Besides his wife, Barbara, he leaves his daughters, Deborah Radcliffe, Kathleen Heim and her husband, Timothy, and a son, Robert W. Wilson Jr. He also leaves 10 grandchildren; five great-granddaughters; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Radcliffe of Colorado. Bob also was predeceased by a brother, Russell Radcliff; and two sisters, Mabel Dowty of Fall River and Geraldine Goad of Baltimore, Maryland.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield.

A Mass of Christian burial for Bob will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard Church, 426 Hazard Ave., Enfield (please go directly to the church.) Burial will immediately follow with military honors in Somers Center Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Memphis, TN 38148-0142 or to the 825 Brook Street, I-91 Tech Center, Rocky Hill, CT 06067-3045.
