Evenuel came from a family of farmers. He ran tanneries with his father Joseph Wesley Haupt, Sr. and brothers. He was married to Rachel Campbell on May 27, 1845 at the Mahoning Presbyterian church by J.W. Yeomans,DD - noted in the Columbia Democrat and Danville Intelligencer. The house he built c. 1855 is on the Danville historical walking tour. Later in life he moved from Pennsylvania with his daughter and son-in-law (Susan Alice and John Prizer Hopple) to Johnson City, TN and then to Petersburg, WV. He died of heart disease at age 73. (Death recorded in Register of Deaths, Grant County, 1896.) Their children were Mariah Jane Haupt, Susan Alice Haupt Hopple (1850-1930), and Edward Oakley Haupt (1856-1880), buried near his mother. Siblings: Elizabeth (1825-1906), Joseph Wesley, Jr., (1828-1899), Samuel (1830-1912), Jared (1933-1895), Michael M. (1835-1896), and Alfred J. Haupt (1840-1841). Evenuel's parents were Joseph Wesley Haupt Sr. (1797-1872) and Susanna Moore. Joseph Sr. was the son of Philip Haupt (1758-1832) and Anna Margaretha Whisler (1760-1839); Susanna was the daughter of Samuel Moore (1776-1857) and Elizabeth Sober (1774-1850).
