Mrs. Hemingway died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003. Born in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late Augustus and Matilda Schallwig Gaetjens. She received a B.S. degree in Education from Winthrop University. After her marriage, she and her husband lived in France and Germany where she served as a Gray Lady. She and her husband moved to Columbia in 1956 and were longtime residents of Wilmot Avenue. She taught Science at Hand Middle School until her retirement after 20 years in 1977.
Mrs. Hemingway was a longtime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
