Donna entered into law enforcement as a young woman, starting her career of 20-plus years at the Alachua County Sheriff’s Dept. She then came to Perry and joined the Perry Police Dept., in 1993. After a few years, she then joined the Taylor County Sheriff’s Dept., and was a long time Investigator for them. She retired due to medical reasons in 2012. As an officer, Donna’s passion was more for serving and protecting the public, than the authority she may have had with her position. Donna loved her family and friends, as well as her dogs, and was devoted to them.
She is survived by her father, Wayne Coody and his wife, Mary, of Cherry Lake; her sisters: Renee Hatton and husband, Barry of Panama City Beach; Sherelle Clark and husband, Mills, of Kingsland, Ga.; and Suzanne Brown of Middleburg; her brother, Allen Coody, of Middleburg; nephews: Garrett Clark, Blake Clark, Ridge Hatton, Stone Lee Hatton, Dylan Coody and Randall Brown; nieces: Hailye Hatton and Casey Brown; great nephew, Connor Clark and great niece Jamie Brown. Special friends Mr. and Mrs. Dodd Franklin and Kenny Keene, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive her.
Donna was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Lee Horton and nephew, James Allen Coody (1989 - 2010)* .
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 31 at 2 p.m. at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home in Perry with Bro. Gary Blanton officiating. Interment will follow at the Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Shady Grove. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 31 at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society or to Taylor County Animal Shelter. All arrangements are under the care of Joe P. Burns Funeral Home.
